We Gather…as a community and prepare to hear the Word of God

Leader: Let us remember we are in the holy presence of our loving God. We will set up a prayer space to contemplate the face of God as we pray.

We reverently place the cloth on our prayer space…….

We place the cross on our prayer space…….

We place the Word of God on our prayer space…..

We place the candle on our prayer space……

We light the candle to signify God’s presence as the ‘light of Christ’…….

Introduction. We come together to pray as Jesus taught us. Jesus always sought strength and hope in solitude to allow him to have strength for the mission on which he was sent by his Father. When his disciples wished to imitate his close relationship with his Father they asked Jesus to teach them how to do this. We pray together by making the Sign of the Cross: In the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit. Amen. Opening prayer: Jesus you taught your disciples how to pray. Teach us to not only pray but guide us to live our words of prayer in our life.                                             We pray this through Christ our Lord. Amen.

We Listen
to the Word of God as it is proclaimed because Scripture is the heart of a liturgical celebration.

Reader: Matthew 6:7-15, The Our Father (use the Bible from the Prayer Space to proclaim the Word)

We Respond
with a ritual action such as a reflection on the Word, Prayers of the Faithful, Powerpoint, a ritual action and/or singing.

Ask students to reflect upon each line of the Lord’s Prayer: This could be done with spoken or printed words.

Our Father who art in Heaven: Where do you find God in your life? Who are the people, places and experiences that bring you closer to God?

Hallowed be your name: How do you show respect for God’s name? Do you honour God by treating the good name of other people with respect?

Your Kingdom come: Jesus asks you to build God’s Kingdom in our world by being a person of love and justice. What have you done in the past week to make the world a better place? Your Will be done on earth as it is in heaven: What does God ask of you in your daily life? How do you show respect and concern for yourself… for others…for God? Give us this day our daily bread: Bread is a symbol of the things we need to help us live – not just in a physical way but in an emotional and spiritual manner. What do you need to help you cope with life at the present time? How can you be ‘bread’ for other people in their daily lives?

And forgive us our trespasses as we forgive those who trespass against us: What recent actions or thoughts do you need to ask forgiveness for? Who are the people in your life that you need to forgive? What can you do to achieve this forgiveness?

And lead us not into temptation but deliver us from evil: What are the temptations, worries or trials in your life at the moment? How do you need to be protected in your life? Use Matt Maher Youtube clip ‘As it is in Heaven’  http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=BGAZVASoUv4

We Go Forth
into the world to do what we proclaim and to give witness to the fact that we are disciples and followers of Christ. Use a final prayer, a blessing, a song or hymn.

All: Recite the ‘Our Father’ together.

Closing Prayer:

We thank you Lord for the gift of prayer.
When we pray the ‘Lord’s Prayer’ may we be always mindful of your goodness in our lives.

May your will be done always.

Amen.

Life Skills

Religious Education for students studying a Life Skills program is developed from the unit outcomes, resulting in the Learning Focus and Statements of Learning. Students may demonstrate achievement of these learning statements independently or with support designed to meet the needs of the student. Such support may include:

  • the provision of extra time to complete tasks
  • physical and/or verbal assistance from others
  • the provision of technological support
  • the assistance of a scribe
  • participating in a group task
  • providing verbal or artistic responses along with written ones.

A student

  • explores how the mediums of music and art are and may be used in prayer experiences. (LRECKSD7)

A student studying a Life Skills program will be able to:

  • deepen their understanding of prayer
